Fighting For Innovative Healthcare

Notre Dame Professor Chang and his team are working to refine the technology in handheld medical diagnostic device for proper diagnosis

When lives are on the line, every minute counts. Getting a quick and accurate diagnosis can mean the difference between life and death; however, in the developing world, doctors often lack the medical equipment necessary to determine the cause of a patient’s illness.

Notre Dame Professor Hsueh-Chia Chang, the Bayer Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and principal investigator in Notre Dame’sAdvanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics initiative, is leading a research team that is refining technology for a handheld diagnostic device that identifies the DNA of bacteria and viruses that cause specific diseases.

With this type of tool, medical professionals in even the most remote locations around the world will have critical information at their fingertips, enabling them to offer proper care to suffering patients.

This is just one more example of the many battles the faculty and students of Our Lady’s University are waging—battles we could not fight for without your generous support. Thank you.
