Fighting So the Weak May Be Nourished

Notre Dame Bengal Bouts supports Holy Cross missions in Bangladesh, providing funding for food and medicine to those living in sickness and poverty.

The Notre Dame Bengal Bouts, an annual amateur boxing competition, raises money for Holy Cross missions in what is now Bangladesh. It has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars for food, medicine and education for the people of the region since it began in the 1920s.

“Strong bodies fight, that weak bodies may be nourished.” Those are the words of Dominic “Nappy” Napolitano, head boxing coach at Notre Dame from 1930 to 1931.

For decades, the Notre Dame Bengal Bouts have upheld that motto as young men have put on their gloves and gotten into the ring for sport and to make a difference for people in need.

Fighting so the weak may be nourished. It’s a motto that speaks volumes about Notre Dame and the people who strive to fulfill its mission.

Fighting for the Weak; it's one more battle Notre Dame’s faculty and students couldn't wage without your support. Thank you.
